Free hobbies and adult presence for children at Me-talo
Summary of the plan
For four years, Me-talo has been offering free recreational activities, homework help and, above all, the presence of a reliable adult for children in the area. However, the challenge is to meet this great need with existing resources.
A salary resource for one half-day instructor is proposed for Me-talo for 2021. This one instructor would act as a leader of children’s hobby clubs as well as a present and reliable adult for children in, for example, cases of bullying. According to the children's wishes, hobbies would be related to, for example, handicrafts, dancing, exercise and baking.
All children's hobbies will be free of charge, which will enable hobbies even for those families who cannot afford to pay for their children's hobbies. The goal is to use this human resource to support the hobby activities and schooling of about 150 children at Me-talo in 2021.

Support the well-being of the area's residents by offering free hobbies, discussion assistance, activities, promoting children's schooling and so on with the help of a skilled and inspiring employee. At the heart of it all is meeting people, providing joy and helping the people of the area. Above all, the aim is to provide a safe adult who is present for children in the area.
Hire one part-time instructor by 2021 with the funding. A suitable educational and work experience background could be, for example, a sociologist or a community pedagogue. The key is to find an inspiring and caring employee.
Communities and people involved in the implementation
The activities of Me-talo are carried out in cooperation with community actors such as the Pansio Elementary School, Mikael parish and others. The supervisor and family counsellors of the Me-talo, coordinated by the Fingerroos Foundation, are key people in the cooperation. The employee does not do their job alone but is assisted by the entire Me-talo community. They also receive guidance for their work from the supervisor of Me-talo and a multi-professional work team.
