Recreational use of Koroistenniemi
Summary of the plan
Rehabilitation of Koroistenniemi and the surroundings of Vähäjoki river for recreational use in the vicinity of the Koroinen cross. The rehabilitation of the area will be carried out together with the residents through numerous guided workshops, in cooperation with experts. The beaches will be cleaned of invasive alien species to foster old traditional plants and biodiversity. Nice-looking signposts will be made for the Koroinen area telling about the plants, soil, animal species and history of the area. The previous signs will be taken into consideration. Trails along which people can extensively and independently learn about the unique nature and cultural heritage.
The Vähäjoki river will also be rehabilitated below the surface. The river will be rehabilitated naturally, adding beautiful creek gravel, thus creating spawning grounds for trout and other fish. Water system and biodiversity are taken care of and supported while beautifying the environment.
Mapping of the plants and history of the area with signposts describing, for example, the plants, animals, soil, underwater nature, history and cultural heritage of the area. Lecture series on the nature of the area and the conservation work. The events bring together local nature actors and residents.
In the future, people can come to Koroinen to see diverse nature and, for example, observe fish. It is great to arrange cultural and nature tours as well as nocturnal bird and bat tours when nature is alive and well. Let’s make Koroinen a garden for all the residents of the city for future generations, protecting the aquatic life and the Baltic Sea.
